Threat of Another Chakka Jam In A Year

Afternoon Voice

Mumbai 25th Dec:- All India Motor transport Congress and Bombay Goods and Transport Association calls for Chakka Jam on 5th of Dec 2010. The president of AIMTC Mr G. R. Shanmugappa said "That Time Has Come For Us To Stand Up And Survive". In a press conference at Marathi patrakar sabha sammelan at Azad Maidan the meeting was held.
Shanmugappa said we have given Government an ultimatum till 25th of November for this chakka jam but there are no reply from government side. so they are going for chakka jam all over india which will include 72 lakhs heavy vehicle from India and 7 lakh heavy vehicle in Maharashtra, including Twenty other members of Truck Association, and Anna Hazare who will join the protest publicly from 2nd Dec. The reason AIMTC and BGTA is going for chakka jam is due to the rising prices of toll plaza which also includes the interest of private companies and local mafias who do not want toll plaza to be closed which has completed its term.
The increase in lanes due to which tolls are been increased before the completion of work is a corruption says Shanmugappa.
Private builders charge 200% extra toll in comparison to govt owned toll plazas and sometimes they apply or increase the charges even before their work is started.
In this case a trucker pays Rs 7000 for his single visit to Delhi out of which only 20% is a Govenment owned Toll Plaza rest all goes in the pocket of Private Companies like L&T, Reliance, RBI and GMI, which earns 1000's of crores in a year in the name of Development Charge, maintenance, Parking Facility which is hardly available in any highway of India.
Most of the highways dont even have the Toilet Facility, Phone booth, Haulting Space, Sleeping Place and emergency Medical Facility for drivers and travelers.
The Toll of Mumbai-Pune Express Highway per day is about 1 Crore 20 Lacs which in a year goes around 4000 Crore after which there is always an increase in the toll by 10% in a year and 12% increase in cars and it has been only six years until now still 18 more years are remaining to fill in IRB's pocket. National Highways have become today a mass level of Privatization where  few foreign investors with the help of Indian Companies and with the support of local mafia Privatize natural resources. Road are property of government and is made for the convenience of public. But this type of mass privatization will lead India and its citizens to mass poverty.
Beyond all this Mr Shanugappa has a plan for Government where our central government can charge 30,000 per year and free all heave four wheelers and dumpers for paying Tolls, which will enhance a direct relationship of Truckers and Government and will clean up mass level privatization.
Since yesterday morning it rained heavily and there are possibility of crops got effected and in between this National level Strike of truckers may become the reason of Price Rise of food Products. which will create a huge amount of disparity for a common man to survive.
